UMBC Chess Team Competes in the 2012 President's Cup

[4/3/2012, by ]--The Baltimore Sun and The Washington Times covered the UMBC chess team this week as they competed in the 2012 President’s Cup.

Cyber Challenge Hones Students’ Cyber Skills

[11/18/2011]--Tyler Campbell, Nick Ducq, Ryan King, Andrew Nguyen and Tim Spillman walked out of the Baltimore Convention Center elated. Their team, the Sherwood Cyber Warriors, had just won the high school division of the inaugural Maryland Cyber Challenge. Their success netted them each a $5,000 scholarship from the National Security Agency.

The entire experience was rewarding for both the students and their parents, says Steve Weiss, one of the team’s advisers. “Winning first place was the icing on the cake.”

The Maryland Cyber Challenge and Conference site is up and student teams can now register for the competition, with the first qualifying round early in September. It is a chance to demonstrate your ability to work in a team and your cybersecurity and problem solving skills.

[4/20/2011]--On April 5, 2011, all National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) applicants received an email from the NSF notifying them of their status.
